Specialist Experience

Barry is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with 35 year's experience in the Building Services Industry. He has extensive experience of high quality commercial projects, particularly in tropical and hot, dry climates and his innovative designs have won a National Engineering Excellence Award for a mixed use development containing a large auditorium.

He compiled technical design and sustainable design manuals for all Intercontinental Hotel Group brands, which was responsible for the 2007 CIBSE International Achievement Award. The judges commented on how these guides simplified Hotel Services design to reduce both capital and running costs, and presented the information in a way in which it could be easily understood by Engineers whose first language was not English.

He has lectured on smoke control, commissioning, and Legionnaires Disease/Sick Building Syndrome as well as assisting in the compilation of a Tropical Air Conditioning Manual. He has previously worked in the Middle East for 6 years (Oman), the UAE over a period of approximately 8 years, and spent several years in the Far East and Australasia.

He is the inventor for an innovative Hotel guest room air conditioning system, which reduces energy consumption by up to 30% in comparison to traditional fan coil units, and which is patent pending.

Barry has written the engineering standards for all Intercontinental Hotels Group Brands, Jumeirah International and Hilton (Scandic brand).
