Specialist Experience

John has extensive experience in Structural Engineering design, documentation and project management of numerous medium and large scale building projects in Australia, Europe, Middle East and South East Asia. In particular a number of delivery management project have been undertaken as well as alliance delivery of construction projects.

John holds a Degree in Structural Engineering and a post graduate Diploma in Structural Engineering and has over 30 years design experience in the construction industry in Australia, Asia and the Middle East. John is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia. Projects have included numerous structures both commercial and residential, low and high-rise, and industrial complexes. John has worked on a wide variety of projects; he has strong design and analytical skills in the areas of structural steel, reinforced and post-tensioned concrete and finite element analysis. He has lectured in Griffith University on the integrated design of structures.

John is responsible for our Amman office and has worked in the Gulf region for several years.

Hotels

The Watermark Hotel - Gold Coast - This twenty one storey project was concepted as the lowest construction cost hotel complex on the Gold Coast. It achieved the aim by the use of the first post-tensioned raft on the Gold Coast. The Watermark Hotel consists of a one basement carpark conference and management facilities on the first and second floors. The floors are constructed by the use of flat plate one way post tensioned bands.
Crown Towers Gold Coast - Crown Towers is a mixed use building consisting of a two level basement carpark, a ten storey hotel and a 29 storey residential component. In total the building is a forty storey structure. A feature of the structure is the atrium created by the use of sloping columns which do not transfer on their path to the raft. The raft is also post tensioned and 1.8 m thick. At level 11 the building has major transfer beams which are also post tensioned.Rotana Amman - design peer review which resulted in our appointment to re-design the whole structureOberoi Centre Dubai - design peer review which resulted in options for significant cost savings and simplification of the structural design.

Residential

The Wave Broadbeach - This award winning building was constructed with variable cantilever balconies extensions to create the illusion of a very complex waved façade. The building is 33 storeys tall with four basement carparking floors. There are several ten long cantilever awning elements at level one. The effect is a floating canopy over the ground floor commercial component.
Verve Broadbeach - Verve is a very narrow residential tower of 30 floors. The aspect ratio of this building is 10: 1 which is considered very slender in terms of code requirements. The building has good dynamic performance built into a very meager structure.
Sky Tower Abu Dhabi - This 85 storey tower is unique in the fact that it contains 40 levels of commercial space and 40 Levels of residential space over a two level basement and five level podium. The structure has a very low natural frequency and was dynamically stiffened by the use of outrigger structures at level 20 and 40 as well as link beams at all lower levels. The structure sits on a piled raft consisting on a 2.5m depth and 1.2m diameter mega piles.
