The original boardwalk concept was redesigned by ADG to eliminate major river works. The solution included a cantilevered approach with tensioned piles which allowed the construction to be undertaken from the landside, as opposed to costly marine barges and crainage. This innovative approach saved considerable cost and time from the program.

ADG utilised extensive experience in the refurbishment of heritage listed structures to facilitate a careful and economical construction process to rejuvenate the existing structures.

Key features of proposed design include:

  • A dining, retail and tourism centre utilising the existing heritage listed buildings, and a 1500 square metre exhibition space
  • New parkland and public open spaces, including lifts linking the site to the top of the cliffs
  • 164 room 5-star Art Series Hotel – The Fantauzzo, with a feature façade blended into the adjacent cliff face with natural tones and textures to keep the iconic story bridge as the focus
  • 2 levels of underground car park for 359 vehicles
  • Civil infrastructure including roadworks, water and sewer connections and stormwater drainage
  • 0m shared path through the precinct linking the City Reach Boardwalk to the New Farm Riverwalk
