Southern Cross Prestressing
The effective fusion of modern and classic for a building with strong historical value.
Located in Essendon, Melbourne, this $12 million project consisted of 33 apartments in two buildings, with the existing church blended into the structure to create a unique and visually stimulating residential building.
We were engaged to design the difficult transfer structure on a project that incorporated the conversion of a hundred year-old church into a modern apartment building.
The church was a thriving chapel for over a hundred years and holds a special place in Essendon’s history. The presence of the existing structure made construction of the upper apartments a difficult and potentially costly part of the project.
Our design ensured an economically advantageous construction of the upper levels and provided significant reductions in materials and construction time.
We tailored the design of a complex transfer structure to allow for the demands of having to work with and around an existing and treasured building.
