Shard Tower

STRUCTURAL / DEVELOPMENT AND CONSTRUCTION

London, United Kingdom

When complete, The Shard will be the tallest building in Western Europe. A mixed-use vertical city reaching over 1,000 feet of high-quality offices, world-class restaurants, a 5-star hotel, residential apartments and the capital’s highest viewing gallery offering 360° views. All located at the key transport juncture of London Bridge, in the heart of the city.

We provided specialist structural engineering input into the design of all of the post-tensioned floors for the triangular shaped building.

Our involvement included those floors designed to take out lateral forces within the system created by the unique shape of the tower and the transition zones between the different floor systems.

Set to be completed in mid-2012, the project’s success is set to inspire change in the iconic British capital and around the world. Businesses will expect a higher quality of working environment, architects will approach commercial projects with a more open mind and international business will understand where the true heart of London lies.
