State Square Precinct – New Underground Carpark

Darwin

State Square Underground Car Park is a three level, 450 space basement car parks. The ground floor slab forms a landscaped podium deck which accommodates relaxing and social areas which can be used for functions and events.

The car park also acts as a public cyclone shelter for 600 people and thus was designed for structural importance level 4.

State Square Underground Car Park is located adjacent to the existing parliament building and is bound by public roads. ADG worked closely with the contractor and geotechnical engineer in developing the basement retention solution involving full height precast retaining walls. This approach minimised temporary works and craneage requirements on site.

ADG’s competitive post tensioned slab design was critical to the successful tender on State Square Car Park.

State Square Underground Car Park is a key part of transforming Darwin’s CBD into a tropical, world-renowned destination, boosting tourism and enhancing Darwin’s liveability.

ADG’s efficient engineering solution played a major role in the contract being awarded significantly under the original government budget.
