ADG’s collaborative approach to the Cherbourg Murgon Road Cultural Pathway demonstrates engineering designed with cultural sensitivity and community purpose at its core. Working alongside QBuild and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, our civil and structural engineers developed solutions that honour indigenous values whilst creating practical infrastructure connecting Murgon and Cherbourg. The 5-kilometre pathway includes dedicated lookouts at existing bridge structures and a striking 140-metre multi-span pedestrian bridge, celebrating heritage and connection to country whilst promoting active transport and community wellbeing. Through careful consideration of natural environment, utility services, and flooding impacts, we delivered Stage 1 infrastructure that serves both practical mobility needs and cultural significance for generations ahead.

A 5-kilometre corridor linking Murgon and Cherbourg needed engineering solutions that respected indigenous heritage whilst delivering practical transport outcomes.

Our design team worked collaboratively with QBuild and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council to develop pathway solutions that honoured cultural significance whilst addressing complex environmental and infrastructure challenges. Through careful consideration of natural landscape, flooding impacts, and existing utility services, we created design documentation that enabled construction of almost 2 kilometres of pathway featuring dedicated lookouts and a substantial 140-metre pedestrian bridge. This thoughtful approach transformed a transport corridor into a cultural celebration that strengthens community connections whilst promoting active, sustainable movement across the region.

Our civil and structural engineering team delivered comprehensive design solutions that transformed a transport corridor into cultural infrastructure celebrating indigenous heritage whilst creating practical community connections.

Working collaboratively with QBuild and Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council, ADG developed concept and detailed design for the 5-kilometre pathway connecting Murgon and Cherbourg. Our engineers understood this project needed cultural sensitivity, environmental awareness, and structural innovation to create meaningful community infrastructure that served both practical and cultural purposes.

The civil design process integrated careful consideration of the natural environment with practical pathway requirements. By working closely with utility service providers, we developed value engineering solutions that enhanced service coordination whilst creating efficient construction pathways. This collaborative approach enabled smoother project delivery for contractor Bryan Zelinski Engineering.

Structural engineering solutions addressed the pathway’s significant water crossings through comprehensive investigation and analysis. Our team evaluated multiple structural options, conducting detailed flooding modelling to ensure designs remained resilient during extreme weather events. The resulting 140-metre multi-span pedestrian bridge stands as both functional infrastructure and cultural statement, celebrating connection whilst providing safe passage across substantial water bodies.

Environmental considerations shaped every design decision. The pathway route along Cherbourg Road’s verge preserved natural characteristics whilst creating dedicated lookouts at existing bridge structures. These thoughtful additions transformed active transport infrastructure into an experiential journey celebrating the region’s heritage and landscape.

Completed Stage 1 features almost 2 kilometres of walking and cycling path that promotes active transport, supports community health, and celebrates the heritage of Cherbourg residents. Through partnership with local supervision team ATC Consulting Engineers & Project Managers, the design translated successfully into constructed reality serving both communities.
